CARDIN CALLS FOR QUICK PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO AID SMALL BUSINESSES AND CREATE JOBS

Washington, DC – Speaking on behalf of small businesses that have been waiting for the Senate to act,
U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today urged his colleagues to pass H.R. 5297, the
Small Business Jobs and Credit Act.
Senator Cardin is a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. Video of his remarks can be found at

“We're on the verge this week to finally pass legislation that will help the small businesses in our country. This bill is about helping create more jobs for our communities. More jobs are created through small companies than through large companies, and if we are going to be able to grow our economy, we have to help our small businesses grow.

“As I travel throughout Maryland, the number one issue small businesses continue to raise with me is the availability of credit to help their businesses expand. They still are not able to get the type of loans they need at an affordable cost. This bill will help fill the lending gap and it will help strengthen the Small Business Administration, encourage greater federal contracting to small businesses, make it easier for small companies to export goods to other countries, and provide tax relief for small businesses. It’s estimated that the bill being considered by the Senate will generate $5 billion of credit for small business, creating 300,000 jobs.

“I'm proud to support this legislation and hope we can move it quickly this week and get the tools out there, helping our small companies grow, creating more jobs for the people of Maryland and across the country.”
