CARDIN ATTENDS RIBBON-CUTTING AT MARLIN STEEL
Applauds Company's Contribution to Strengthening Manufacturing in Maryland

BALTIMORE — U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today attended the official launch of Baltimore-based Marlin Steel’s new, top-of-the-line laser for making sheet metal fabrication.  The innovative new technology will enable Marlin to continue supplying clients like Boeing and Zimmer Holdings, and strengthen manufacturing in Maryland.  Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was also the ribbon-cutting celebration.

“America’s economy depends on the success of small businesses like Marlin Steel Wire Productions to create jobs and restart our economy,” said Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. “I congratulate the leadership and workforce of Marlin Steel for its innovative approach, which has helped to grow this steel fabrication firm and make it a leader in the field.”

“We need manufacturing to be strong in Maryland and all throughout America, for us to get the economy moving again,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. I am happy to see a Baltimore company invest in this kind of equipment, so we can anticipate the kind of vigorous growth that Baltimore was famous for in past decades. I look forward to even more growth in the years to come from all the energetic faces I see here at the ceremony.”

Marlin Steel’s chief engineer, Tony Witt, commented, “The laser will allow us to perform highly sophisticated cutting jobs, with a minimum of set-ups, since we can design the parts on our computers, push a button, send the designs electronically to the robots, and then watch them do their magic. This increases our productivity enormously.”
