Cardin Applauds Senate Finance Passage of the Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act of 2019

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement following committee passage Thursday of The Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act of 2019.

“One-third of patients say they're skipping prescription medicine because of the cost, according to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation study. These prices hit especially hard for seniors and families living on a fixed income. No one should have to forgo life-saving medication because they cannot afford it. I was proud that our final bill included my provision to tackle drug shortages. It is outrageous that a leading nation like the United States has drug shortages for some of the most common, yet essential drugs. This bipartisan bill is but one step to lowering prescription drug prices, reducing patients’ out-of-pocket costs, and making health care more accessible and affordable.”
