Senator Cardin Announces Service Academy Appointments

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), today announced that eight Marylanders he nominated for the U.S. Service Academies have accepted appointments for the 2014-2015 academic year. 

 

The five U.S. service academies – the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy – recruit top-notch young American men and women of good character who will gain an excellent education while deepening their dedication to serve their country.

 

“Every year, it is my privilege to nominate some of Maryland’s brightest and committed students to the U.S. Service Academies,” said Senator Cardin. “A service academy education is one of the highest honors granted to the very best students nationwide. These future leaders accept their appointments with pride and an understanding that the obligations they make to defend and protect our nation are essential to keeping America strong and secure.”

  • John Pennington, 18, Arnold, Annapolis High School, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

 

  • James Shipley, 18, Severna Park, Severna Park High School/ Northwestern Preparatory School, U.S. Air Force Academy
