Cardin Decries Terrorist Attack on Kenyan College Students

WASHINGTONU.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Special Representative on Anti-Semitism, Racism, and Intolerance for Organization Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly, released the following statement regarding today’s terrorist attack on the Garissa University College, in northeast Kenya:

“No religion condones the murder of innocents. The targeting of students, whose only crime was seeking an education, shows the extreme depravity and cowardice of those responsible for this attack. From the attack on Malala Yousafzai and her classmates, to the kidnapping of 276 girls in Chibok, to the attack on the Army Public School in Pakistan, it is clear that these violent extremists are deeply frightened by the enlightenment and independence that comes with education. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kenya as they come together after this senseless violence.

“This attack affirms the need for the international community to stand shoulder to shoulder against violent extremism. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kenya as they come together in the wake of this senseless act.”
