Cardin Statement on Keystone XL Veto

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement after President Barack Obama vetoed S. 1, a bill that would have overridden the regulatory process and forced the approval of an extension of the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline:

“I applaud President Obama for appealing to logic and vetoing the expansion Keystone XL pipeline. He was right to place the regulatory process over expediting big profits for a Canadian company seeking to export some of the dirtiest oil through our heartland. Congress should respond in a productive manner by working together on a sensible and responsible energy policy for the 21st century.”
