Cardin Praises Committee Approval of Colvin Nomination to be Commissioner of Social Security Administration

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, praised the Committee’s approval of Carolyn Colvin to be the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA).  Senator Cardin introduced Colvin at her confirmation hearing in July.  The Social Security Administration is headquartered in Woodlawn, Maryland.

“Having served as Acting SSA Commissioner since February 2013, Carolyn Colvin has already brought the necessary integrity needed to ensure that beneficiaries, applicants, and the SSA workforce are treated fairly, and that benefits are administered according to the law. I am proud to call her a friend and to have voted in favor of her nomination in Committee,” said Senator Cardin.

“Colvin has vast management experience and a steely resolve to complete successfully whatever mission she is assigned. Whether it is the budget challenges facing Social Security, modernizing the disability claims system, or restoring a constructive, positive relationship between labor and management at SSA, there is one thing I know: Carolyn Colvin has never shied away from a challenge. I look forward to working with her in the years to come addressing each of these issues.”

“I hope the full Senate will confirm this critically important nomination shortly after we next reconvene in November.”
