Cardin Outlines Small Business Priorities for the 114th Congress

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), has been named the top Democrat of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship for the 114th Congress.

“Small businesses create jobs. They are the backbone of the American economy. It’s why I will be privileged to provide a voice for small businesses as the ranking member on the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship in January,” said Senator Cardin.

“Leading my priorities for the next Congress will be working to find better ways to provide access to credit for qualified small businesses and entrepreneurs, as well as expanding access to contracts for women-owned, minority owned and veteran-owned businesses. I will continue to hold the federal agencies accountable for taking all steps necessary to meet or exceed the goal of awarding 23 percent of contracts to small businesses. I want to make sure the federal government remains a reliable customer and a partner with small businesses and not an obstacle to growth. I also intend to use my dual role as a member of the Senate Finance Committee to encourage tax reform that benefits small businesses and encourages American innovation.

“I look forward to working with incoming Chairman David Vitter on bipartisan efforts to promote job growth and economic expansion through the continued success of our small businesses.”
