CARDIN ATTENDS RIBBON-CUTTING FOR NEW COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH CLINIC FOR VETERANS

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today attended the official dedication of the Southern Prince George’s County Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) for veterans.

The new 10,000-square-foot facility, which opened for patients in October 2011, provides more convenient community-based health-care services for veterans living in Prince George’s County.  Health services include primary and preventive care, women’s health, mental health, audiology and dental, and nutritional counseling.  Since January 2012, the clinic has seen 1,346 veterans and 1,153 veterans have enrolled for primary-care services.

“We made certain promises to our veterans and we need to keep those promises.  It’s critical that our veterans get the health care services they need in a timely, convenient manner and this new community-based outpatient clinic will make it much easier for veterans in Prince George’s County to access the health-care services they need,” said Senator Cardin.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Prince George’s County has the most veterans in Maryland with more than 65,000 veterans currently residing in the county.  Veterans who are enrolled in the VA Health Care System may use Community-Based Outpatient Clinics for their primary and some specialty care.
