WESTMINISTER, MD – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today attended a groundbreaking ceremony for Knorr Brakes’ new manufacturing facility in the Westminster Technology Park.  This new facility will double the existing size of Knorr's manufacturing capabilities, primarily for brakes and HVAC systems for the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA).  Knorr plans to add 60 additional local jobs to handle the increased volume.

“Knorr Brake Corporation is a nation leader in manufacturing equipment for mass transit systems and this new, expanded facility in Carroll County will create 60 new jobs for Marylanders by 2018,” said Senator Cardin.  “This expansion also is welcome news for the millions of commuters across the nation who rely on safe and reliable mass transportation to get to their jobs.”

Joining Senator Cardin at the event were Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD), Knorr Brakes CEO Richard Sarles, WMATA officials, Westminster Mayor Kevin Utz, Members of the Westminster City Council, Member of the Carroll County Commissioners, State and County Economic Development Boards, local government officials, Knorr Brake Executives and about 100 Knorr employees.

The new facility is expected to be built over the next 15 months.  Located in Westminster, Maryland, Knorr Brake Corporation (KBC) is a manufacturer of Braking, Door, HVAC and Electronics systems for the Mass Transit Rail Industry.
