WASHINGTON – The Baltimore congressional delegation, including U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes and Kweisi Mfume (all D-Md.), today announced $999,871 in federal funding for Johns Hopkins University (JHU) to expand research programs to mitigate the health and safety hazards of lead-based paint.

“The dangers associated with lead-based paint exposure threaten the health of far too many children and families throughout our region,” said the lawmakers. “As one of our nation’s premier research institutions, Johns Hopkins University is well-positioned to lead these critical public health efforts that will help protect families in Maryland and across the country.”

Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of the Lead and Healthy Homes Technical Studies Grant Awards. It will support JHU’s research efforts to mitigate housing-related health and safety hazards.
